About Deep Sortx

One problem: making the sorting decision stick.

Deep Sortx is based in Hefei and focuses on colour sorters and industrial vision inspection. Imaging, edge inference, valve timing, HMI and model training are developed as one stack, with a team carrying more than ten years of sorting industry work.

Company

Started in Hefei, built around core devices

Deep Sortx develops technology for vision sorting. The founding team has more than ten years of experience in the sorting industry, with deployed projects in colour sorters and industrial vision inspection. The company supplies the layers that make those machines work: the CMOS camera, the AI edge box, the valve board and ejection strategy, the industrial panel PC and the model training platform.

Edge computing and training method work keep image inference below 1 ms on production hardware without giving up accuracy. Imaging extends from visible light to NIR, hyperspectral and X-ray, with custom development for material that standard cameras cannot separate.

Mechanical design capability and supply chain resources sit alongside the electronics: drawings go to sheet metal production, valves and optics are procured, and installed machines receive model and firmware upgrades remotely.

Technical position

Three decisions that shape the product

The product line follows from how the team believes sorting hardware should be built.

01

Own the imaging chain

The CMOS sensor, FPGA algorithms and edge inference are designed as one chain, so a defect decision is not passed between three vendors at 20 kHz.

02

Timing decides the ratio

Valve board layout, hardware driving and ejection strategy are developed together: 0.3 ms open and 0.2 ms close is what protects Purity Ratio and carry-over.

03

Keep the model in the customer's hands

The training platform lets a sorting team annotate, train and download a model, then deploy it to the edge box when the material changes.

Research and delivery

From electronics to sheet metal

A sorting machine is more than a camera and a model. The team covers the parts that usually slow a project down after the algorithm works.

Mechanical design

Frames, enclosures and mounting reviewed with the camera, light and valve layout.

Sheet metal production

Reviewed drawings taken through to batch sheet metal production, not just a CAD file.

Supply chain procurement

Valves, optics and structural parts sourced alongside the electronics delivery.

Remote upgrade and IoT

Firmware, recipes and models updated across installed machines over the IoT layer.

Development

How the platform took shape

Each stage added a layer that the other stages depend on, which is why the modules are specified together today.

  1. Stage 01

    Camera and FPGA algorithm validation

The CMOS camera platform and FPGA vision algorithms proven on sorting tasks in the laboratory.

  2. Stage 02

    Colour sorter valve integration

Custom valve boards and ejection strategy developed with sorter builders, from board layout to field timing.

  3. Stage 03

    Edge compute and training platform

12T and 48T edge boxes on 8-core ARM, plus an in-house annotation and training platform for model iteration.

  4. Stage 04

    HMI, panel PC and IoT

Linux HMI on an industrial panel PC rated -20 °C to 70 °C, with remote control, monitoring and upgrades.

  5. Stage 05

    Multi-industry deployment

Applications extended from grain and tea to herbal material, ore and metal, each with its own spectral path.
